The rear shocks on my '14 SG are the worst of any of my previous 38 bikes. What have you guys switched to to solve the harsh ride over small bumps and 2.5 lousy ins of travel? Other then that the bike is just great.

I went with HD Premium Ride Hand-Adjustable Rear Shocks p/n 54000008. They are 13" shocks with an additional inch of travel. I have not ridden on them yet.

Any update from hulkss? Did you install them yourself?

The shocks are on and ready to go. They are easy to install but I let the dealer do it to get the two year warranty.

It's -15 F outside now so I gotta wait for it to get a little warmer.

I have JRI A's. They're only adjustable with regard to preload. They're 12" (bolthole-to-bolthole) shocks with a little over 3" of travel. They are compliant but don't bottom out. They do lower the bike a little versus the stock 12" airshocks, but the ride versus stock is much 'smoother'.

If I had it to do over, I'd probably get the JRI-B's--which have a rebound damping adjustment. I had a set of Ohlins (3-3s) with that adjustment, and the ride was very good.

My limited experience is, the more settings a set of shocks have, if all things are equal (spring rate, etc.) the better you can dial the ride in, and the better the ride. But all those settings come at a cost. The Ohlins were eight-hundred-plus and the JRI's were a little less than six-hundred.
