Just wanted to share this with my SGF Brothers....

Added my lowers...

After 4 hours in 99 degree heat at 85-90mph...vents are WIDE OPEN ( genuine HD lowers.. BTW) I get off and notice this...

My horn cover... ( you can see the vent is WIDE OPEN)

And my AC

ET'S are 265-275...roughly same engine temps with and without the lowers..... gonna try adding the screens from a 16 Ultra on the lowers for more air flow...

Ever seen this?

Holy moly. I'm really amazed that kind of discoloration would occur. I've never seen any mention of this before even from limited owners! I have wards fans but that really makes me wonder how anyone can run lowers in AZ, with 100+ days over 100 (and I think we did 30 over 110)

Fortunately... it wipes off with a little effort. Kinds has me wondering if it's the polish (Mothers) that I'm using. .. but no other chrome parts are doing it

Huhhh Spazz, that's not an SG! Did you post the wrong pic?

Just kidding!

I've never seen that before on my friend's Road Glide Ultra, and the weather is always hot here in South Florida. I'm wondering if the humidity actually helps with cooling. I know you guys get super hot and dry up there. Just came back from visiting my mother in Sunsanville and my skin was so dry I looked like a lizard!

I've used Mothers on the pipes before and it didn't burn up like that.

I can't see the pics here at work, but if the horn has a haze on it, my '14 Ultra does the same thing. It does just wipe right off like you said. I took my lowers off a couple weeks ago, but I haven't noticed if the cover is hazed over again. I'll have to look when I get home. I've never noticed it on my SG.

Well one test you could do to see if it's just Polish (caps not intended. Unless you're from Poland) would be to apply some on your header heat shields and run the bike. It should start to rainbow in minutes if that's the case.

I use nu finish which is a royal pain to get off chrome so I avoid contact with anything not painted. I'm going to switch to another Polish once it runs out though, bugs and rain stick more than I expect for a polished surface. Then again, look at the price of that stuff.

i have used the same polish on everything since day one.... all chrome gets Mothers.... this only started after installing the lowers. nothing else is different.

Try SimiChrome and see if there is any change.
