Aluminum Pitting

I've looked online and found several folks who have had apparent success using fine, then finer, then finer sandpaper to remove pitting from their front forks. Has anyone here had success doing so? I trust this group better. haha. Or has anyone had success using other methods. I have a 15 and live in Florida, so the humidity and salty air do a number on the raw aluminum.

I did my 12 roadking with 1000 grid wet sand paper and wd 40 then polished with aluminum polish by hand.came out good almost looked like chrome.time consuming but will look good.
