Wow... Been biking for 17 years, first Harley Davidson last fall. Bought a leftover 2015, already my motor, transmission, and suspension is old. LOL, even my license plate is old news.

You sound like a spoiled brat. How do you figure it is out of date?
I rode a 1957 PanHead, rattled the teeth outta my head, and always felt proud to ride any Harley.

Easy there Bones. I think it was intended as a humorus comment.

Sometimes its nice getting your teeth rattled a bit.....I had an old pan-head growing up...sure miss that "classic" bike....

luvtoride and timcza…….If I came on too strong I apologize. I love Harley’s , their history, their attitude, their show of independence and more. It doesn’t have to be the newest to be a Harley. Nothing is new once you ride it off the dealers lot. Be proud to own a Harley. The ‘17’s may offer something that will remain “the same” for awhile. Consider trading if a 103 leaves you wanting more. Again, I apologize for coming on too strong. As for me, I will stand tall by any Harley....any year. Ride On.

danoday....that's funny and good advice.
I saw a video of a guy riding, and when he stuck his tongue out at the camera, his teeth came flying out.

No offence taken. The thread was posted in a humorous fashion, relating more to the timing of my own purchase, not a criticism. This board is actually very civil, and needs to be praised. I've been on Goldwing forums where you get flamed for very little and all out wars are started regularly. After all these forums are made up of people with similar interest. I own a Harley and a Goldwing, drive them both, love them both. If I had a Susuki, Kawasaki, BMW, I'm sure I would love them too.

I agree, this a great forum and I am also on my first HD, but I have had a lot of other junk. I will say I am surprised that HD would somewhat abandon the Rushmore project after only a few years, especially as successful as it seemed to have been. A lot of people got off their older HD's to get a Rushmore and a lot of new riders got on one because of the HD Rushmore. So I am baffled that the Rushmore bikes didn't have a longer shelf life. I couldn't be happier with my 14 SGS, Yeah its got some Boom glitches, rides hot in the summer, its loud and makes a lot of strange noises at idle, but that is exactly why I bought it and had to wait just about my entire adult life to afford it. My only regret is I waited so long to buy one.

Rushmore is alive and well. The Motor Company just got forced into compliance by the EPA. The Twin Cam just couldn't pass emissions out of the gate very well anymore w/o mods. The non touring models will get updated next year. All in all, the Milwaukee 8 is a much faster engine, other than some suspension tweaks they are the same bike as the 2014-16's.

I do agree in some respect. This is my second Harley so I wanted to have the newest available. That was why I picked a 2014, I wanted those Rushmore changes versus getting a 2013 for cheaper! But, oh well. My phone was new last year too. My truck was new 30 years ago. I ain't rich so I'll just pay mine off and ride it for a few years. Maybe by 2025 she will be worn out and I'll have a good excuse to get the new toy.

Another option is to find a wife with a good income. She doesn't have to be a model, but she does have to pay at least half my mortgage! That will clear up a few bucks for a new 2017...

Bones, No offence taken, I figured he was joking as was I. The new bikes are nice but what do you ride while waiting for the next upgrade? They are all used as soon as you sign the papers! lol It will be less to upgrade my suspension then the loss I would take and my 103 has plenty of power...well maybe just cams...maybe! lol I believe it's not about the bike, it's the ride. I will ride with anyone riding anything as long were having a good time. Who knows, in the future the 14-16's could be more desirable because they do the Harley shake! Maybe not. I just know I am still happy with mine and will ride it as long as I can. Keep the shiny side up.

Got to tell you, I have a 2014 SGS and am eyeing something much older. I LOVE vintage HD's. The older the better. I want one I am not afraid to ride around. Not one to sit in a shop or garage. Old bobber type would totally ROCK!!! This is my first HD and I get it now. I love the history, the story, and the American spirit in every bike they make.
