My drive belt has started to make a noise at slow speed and only after it is hot? Kind sounds like...whomp whomp whomp?? The belt tension is per the service manual and mileage is at 3,000 miles. My 45 mile ride to work, it does not make noise, cool mornings. about 1/2 way home in the afternoon when the weather is warm and the bike heats up it starts making the noise...

Yes, I don't see anything that would indicate it is from rubbing on something. What's throwing me off is the fact that it only happens when it is hot. Riding last night in the cool air and no noise...

Have you inspected your tires, could it be noise coming from a tire?

Yes, looked at the tires too, nothing unusual ... I don't want to take it to the dealer, they wont ride it enough to duplicate the problem...(only makes the noise when it is warm) I will dive deeper into it over the weekend. Hopefully something obvious will pop out...

If your bike is under warranty visit the dealer with your situation. Maybe this has happened to others and they would know right away what the situation is. Maybe a bad batch of belts. Worst case you are on record with your complaint for future consideration

Look for evidence of the belt rubbing on the inboard or outboard rear sprocket flanges. Then tweak your rear wheel alignment to correct.

I've been reading through a lot of other forums. Found one from years ago saying.... "Metal expands as it gets hot, maybe the rear pulley is expanding just enough to over tighten the belt". Well, my belt was adjusted to the tight side of the spec. and it only made the noise when the bike was hot. so I loosened it to the loose end of the spec. As of now, NO more belt noise.

I'm with hulks, wheel is cocked slightly to one side. If you youtube it there is a way to check alignment. And check to see how deep your belt is riding in the rear pully. The belt should be close to level with the ridge of the pully. If it appears to be deep then the teeth on the belt is wearing the pully as the pully is aluminum.

I understand. My concern would be maybe that's just hiding an underlining problem but if you backed it off and still have good tension then heck maybe it was just a tad bit too tight. Good luck and ride safe
