How hot is too hot for these touring bikes? Got hung up in stop and go (more stop than go) traffic yesterday for maybe 30 min. I have a 2012 SG and used my FP3 and cell phone to monitor the vitals. Ambient air temp 101 degrees and the bike got up to 365deg!!! I smelled oil burning and saw some white smoke when I would blip the throttle. Not sure if smoke was through the exhaust or the breather. Did I do harm to the engine? Any thing I could check or watch for as far as signs of damage?

V-twin engine can take the heat over 300 degree, 365 degree is a bit hot. If you are using full synthetic oil then you maybe fine, if the bike is running fine it should be good.

If you plan to do more of stop & go I suggest you invest in oil cooler with fan like UltraCool and Love Jugs. I am in AZ and use both, the highest my engine ever reached was 280 degree in the hottest day and the motor is not stock, that's with both UltraCool & Love Jugs.

BlkDragon, are you saying the factory oil cooler (minus the fan) is insufficient?
