Hurricane Matthew

A bit of a heads up to the east coast US...Hurricane Matthew
https://weather.com/

I'm reminded of Hurricane Floyd in 1999. It took a similar path to that predicted for today's Matthew. Floyd was responsible for 57 fatalities and $6.9 billion in damages. Floyd triggered the third largest evacuation in US history (behind Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Rita, respectively) when 2.6 million coastal residents of five states were ordered from their homes as it approached. Why do I remember Floyd, because my Granddad was a Floyd. I spent most of my life in Florida and have a great respect for Hurricanes. Folks near the east coast should pay attention to Matthew. I was raised to believe a little paranoia is prudent.

I went to gas up and fill the gas cans for the generator at lunch before it gets too crazy. Lots of people out on the streets already.

There is a sub shop next to the gas station. While I was in there getting my hot pastrami to go, everyone outside runs towards the gas station. Turns out it was a motorcycle crash. The guy came around the corner and a car pulled out of the parking lot across the lanes. Not sure if the bike was speeding. I when to check on him and helped him move the bike. He looked OK except for his swollen hand which he thought was broken. He was able to jump off the bike before impact. In the photo you can see the hit to the rear left quarter panel of the Camaro.

The 2pm advisory has Miami out of the cone. Let's pray it keeps moving East into the ocean.

Matthew not likely to come ashore but he won't have to. This is a deadly storm and will impact many counties that usually avoid these things. Our ground is already soaked from lots of rain and trees minimal root systems are already weak. The kids have their game plan already

It keeps doing the East/West dance. Not taking chances.

Shutters up: checked!
Test the generator: checked!
Food, water, and supplies: checked!
Ammo: checked!

Only thing left is finish putting up the shutters for my 70 year old lady neighbour and getting a pre hurricane glide ride if time permits.

PROTECT THE GLIDE! Be safe brother

Sounds like you are an old hand at hurricane prep. Stay safe............

Do not forget to get some cash. When power is lost the ATM's do not work and neither do credit cards. Lived in Fort Lauderdale from 99 to 2015. Now very happy in Tennessee where no one calls me Poppy or my wife Mommie.

I can't wait for the day we leave Miami for good. I spent 4 years in VA but had to come back. I loved it up there.

Forecast is calling for 41 mph winds here in my area by 8 am tomorrow morning.

The pictures of Haiti I've seen show a lot of damage. I think they reported 25 deaths. The Bahamas will get it tonight.

Lol that guy has his priorities straight!

So far it's calm here. Wind starting to pick up a bit but nothing major and no rain yet. News are now saying it will start around noon. Lots of dark ugly fast moving low clouds.

My neighbor came by yesterday afternoon. His wife always goes to the grocery store on Wednesdays. She said the store was packed because of people buying in advance of the hurricane. All cell phone service is down, and folks were talking about that. But, the oddest thing, the store had sold out of bottled water and POTATO CHIPS.
Sounds like some folks are planning on having the munchies.:D:D
