Nice Video.... I just returned to Fl from a week in that area. I did ride the Dragon but did not really enjoy it. Too many people wanting to go faster than my comfort level. I don't ride slow but I'm not a speed freak either. Too many crotch rockets would blow past me( 30-40 my speed when possible) at 50-60 and into blind corners.. No thanx.. To dangerous for me. I finished and headed to Cherohala... Much more to my liking and pretty much deserted. I rode Cherohala up and back 3 times and spent some time at the HD shop shooting the ****. Seems quite a few felt the same as I did on that day. Lots of Slingshots up there as well. Don't get me wrong TOD is an awesome rode to ride. I just don't do well in crowds on the girl or off. Moonshiner was a nice ride as well. I headed up to NW Tn after a couple days in Bryson City and rode the old 23 and then up to the 421. The Snake was also mostly deserted so I had the road to myself. Dragged some boards and got to know the old girl better... Was a great time and faced with going back to work.... I'm ready to turn around and head West. Lol

Agreed! I didn't have too much of that. And if the speed demons want to go around that would be their problem. I wasn't going to be "pushed". There were four of us that went, two of the guys had Kawasaki's and the other had one of those BMW "adventure" bikes with those damn metal suitcase bags all attached to it. ;) I think it was a GS1200 or DS1200 anyhow those guys zips along pretty well as you can see in my video they went way ahead of me.

We rode it twice. I can now say I did it and tons of oozing scenery on the way..

We stayed in Maggie valley - we also rode the Cherohala and also the Blue Ridge Parkway. I live in Raleigh, my round trip was approx 1100 miles over memorial weekend.

You have to hit TOD on an off day.... best time.... I'm a throttle junky and love draggin my floorboards. I got held up by 4 crotch rockets on a rental RGS... finally said screw it... pulled off and gave them some time to get ahead..... I still caught them.... did it 3 times!!!! Finally I got the chance to run up TOD with NO TRAFFIC!!!! WHAT A RUSH!!!!

I will go back some day... Mojo showed me one hell of a 4 day vacation! THANKS MOJO!!!!

I hit it on a Friday - memorial day weekend. I didn't think it was that bad. However I am not sure what to baseline that against as that was my first time.

It was a Wednesday for me.. I seriously doubt there is a slow time crept dead of winter

Heading North to Kingsport TN with 2 friends, starting the 7th of October and we plan on cruising most of these rides on the way back. I'm kind of excited but not a curvy fan. We have alot of straight roads here in florida. So am a bit nervous about it. Any tips for riding the curves???

Since you are in this forum I will assume the bike you have is most likely a Streetglide? With that said, just ride in your comfort zone. Trust me the speed-a-holics crotch rockets will pass you if they want. Just let them. Do not be nervous as there is nothing to be nervous about. There are all kinds of bikes , trikes, cars and people there.

I let the motor do the work I barely touched the brakes. Make sure you have some revs in the curves (dont let it bog).
If you drag a floor board or peg ( I didn't) do NOT get frightened, just ride it thru. I heard stories of people trying to correct and then do
something stupid. I believe the speed limit is 30 (which I laugh at as no one does it)

Remember the basic rule. You go where you look. Keep it simple and ENJOY! Once you turn around from going through the first time you will be like "yeah I want to rip through it again!"
Get a gopro or the much cheaper git2 gitup pro camera.

Also take note of the time before you start as you leave the parking lot of where everyone gathers. This way when you see the photographers snapping pics you can later search for them then purchase them on their site. it will ask for date and time and bike type.. Purchase your self a memory. cheap at 6 bucks or so and very high quality.

You have over 300 curves... it will be awesome takes about 20-30 minutes to go through depending on speed and if there is someone slow in front of you or a service truck then time will vary.
Have fun - can't wait to hear about it.

Me and a few friends "MIGHT" go again in mid October.

I've been on the TOD many times, its pretty nice if you catch it on an off day w/o crotch rockets. HOWEVER, I did the Devils Whip this past weekend in NC and have to say it's much better!

Just did the Rattler and seem to compare from what I remember if the Dragon last year. Great explanation from Peter. What helped me was also raising on the opposite butt cheek for making a turn sharper. Left turn, right butt cheek.

Thanks for the tips! The butt cheek thing is funny! But true.. Warm clothes, watch out for crotch rockets. I have yet to go so low where I scrape anything? I'm still trying to take it all in, about a week away.
