Anyone running Custom Dynamics Plasma Rods as third brake lights?
Are they good?

I am and yes, they work very well. Especially with their strobe box that allows you to dial in one of several strobe patterns which really alerts other motorists that you're braking.

Plasma Rod Pics.jpgI love 'em! Really lights up the rear. I'm just using them as running and brake lights.

How are those mounted? Looks like not on the sadlebags or the filler strip.

I shaped two pieces of 1/8" thick aluminum to fit the contour of the chrome pieces that are underneath the filler panels and bolted them to it.

Ya know some one ought to capitalize on that NGOT8OR, hint hint. I'd pay as would others for a nice mounting system like that......

Well the filler strips have a curved shape which would make mounting less than ideal. I have been eyeing the plasma rods and since I have the bag mounted lights, I could (in theory) just tap into the wires coming from the bag lights so there isn't another set of wires to unplug while removing the saddlebags. It's not so much about ease of install/removal of the saddlebags, it's more about fiddling with wires while supporting a $1000 painted piece of plastic to me.

Why not just mount them on the fill;er strips or bags?

You can mount them on he filler strips if you like. That is of course the easiest way to do it, but to me the brackets provide solid backing. In addition, if you ever need to remove the rear fender or filler strips, it'll be much easier because you won't have to disconnect the wiring for the plasma rods like azglocker said.

I was going to get the HD lights for the bags, but thought I'd save some bucks on the plasma rods. May go back to the original plans. I had the HD lights on my Road King & loved them

Get both! Or which ever you like better. I always want more lights so I've been exploring options for adding more light front side and rear then I'll update the existing incandescent signals. Harleys lighting options aren't cheap but they are well done.

There's already a guy on here that makes the brackets look through the older threads and they are high quality. 14FLHX I think

I run them as brake turn, replaced stock tribar with CD's and removed license plate holder and run CD's lighted plate holder
