WHIM or Amp & Speakers

Hi all,
I am a very happy owner of a 17 SGS, its about 3 months since purchase and has about 6xxx miles. This is my toy and I ride it to relax not a commute vehicle. So far the add-ons have included Ohlin shocks, C&C seat, chopped tourpak, Wild 1 handlebars and mirrors.
I need some advice about the direction to go on the sound system. On local rides <70 mph the sound is adequate but after 70 quality goes south and then with ear plugs it is muffled gibberish. Two directions to go: amp and speakers or WHIM and HD headset.
(I have been using all different shape earplugs trying to find what works best. My fall back are the foam disposable style. I am investigating the molded style or the molded with speakers).
With the holiday specials either WHIM and headset or HD amp and speaker are "about" the same price so I am strictly looking at quality of sound at freeway speeds, phone calls/communication has little value at this time.
I am leaning towards the WHIM system but have zero experience with headsets. The riders I have spoken to use the headset because they do not have a choice so no true comparison.
My question, which system would provide the best quality and service?

I can only dance around your question but will give you what I know. I have ridden with a full face helmet and Bluetooth headset for over 10 years, and even some wired sets prior to that. I listen to music, talk to friends, and take calls. Once I bought a motorcycle with a stereo, I concentrated on improving that sound and only use my headset now for bike to bike and phone.

I assume the helmet and ear plugs are similar blockage, but I like better sound than the speakers in a headset give me so that was my reasoning for working on the stereo. I ride at 80 most the time on the interstate and have no issues, the wife loses out some (also in a full face). Any lower speed everyone is happy.

Hope that gives you 1 perspective.

WHIM is only $400..... if you think you will upgrade your audio for that amount and be happy.... I'm sorry... you will not. Word of advice... STAY AWAY FROM BOOM AUDIO upgrades... there are plenty of WAY BETTER options out there for the money.

I have installed numerous audio systems... from my bike to friends and family... I have installed 2 WHIM's now.... they use WHIM to connect to their Sena headsets and connect to others...and the SENA is bt to the phone.... the audio I installed for them is what they prefer for listening pleasure.

If you want great audio... do it... if you want the WHIM do it..... but you won't have concert hall music in the helmet like you would with a high quality audio system.

Here is a very cost effective option for you which can be done for under $400.00 and no radio flash is necessary. While it's not wireless, this setup does sound better than my expensive amped stereo and speakers when used with my Beats Ear Buds. I now have the best of both worlds on my 2015 SGS. Going this route will even set you up for answering and making phone calls too. All you would need to do this, is a mic. I will be going with Boom Audio 2 amp and speakers, as well as WHIM on my 2018 SGS. From what I have been told, many headsets will work with the WHIM (in mono), but only the HD Sena headset will give you stereo sound. I have yet to install and test everything on the 2018, so I can't speak on the sound quality yet.
