I purchased a 2019 FLHXS on the first day the new 2019s arrived. I traded in my 2014 FLHXS which had 36,000 miles. She gave me excellent service with no problems. On the 2014 I had Fulsac headers, open breather, screaming eagle tuner, and slash V & H slipons. I thought it sounded great. But truthfully, all that with the dealer dyno tune wasn't quite worth the $2000 in performance gains looking back. The 2014 had the otherwise stock 103. The new Street Glide has the M8 114. I think the 114 is about equal, or slightly better, than my 103 was when I traded it in. I think all I want to do on the 114 is to make it sound like a Harley. Way to quiet now. I am torn between the S&S M45 slipons and the Cobra Neighbor Haters based strictly on what I have been able to read in forums and other info on the net. I don't want stupid loud, just a Harley that sounds like a Harley. I know previous to the M8s, Slipons only did not require tuners or changes to the bike's computer. What are your experiences for slipons only on the M8s. Do I need to retune? What slipons are working well on the M8s? Ideas and thought are appreciated.

I have the Cobra Neighbor Haters and hated them stock.
I like them now, but I rebaffled them myself. The stock sound was too loud for me and wasn’t a real rich sound. I removed the stock baffle, then bought two thrush mufflers at oreillys for $25 each, then cut them apart and the cobra baffles apart also, then welded the baffles from them into the Cobras baffle end . Before installing them back in the pipes I wrapped them with steel wool. Much better sound to me and a little quieter.
If I had it to do over I would look at a different muffler. There are some really good options now. I found great demonstrations of some of the best ones on YouTube

Went to the local HD dealer today, they sell Rhineharts. Parts guy and dealer mechanic were at the desk so I started asking questions. They say that with just slipons I still need to buy a tuner and remap. That's another $350. Anyone else going with slipons alone and not using a tuner for an M8 engine?

Here is my 2018 M8 with S&S Grand National mufflers. The mufflers have decibel killer inserts which can be very easily removed for more sound, although I have never removed them.

One additional piece of information I'll share with you is, the S&S muffler coating does not match the color of the factory heat shields. I had my factory heat shields media blasted and coated with the matching Cerakote after S&S told me that Glacier Black is the color that they use on their mufflers.

Thanks for the heads up on the paint mismatch. I was at the local dealer Saturday and listened to a brand new FLHXS that had Cobra Neighbor Haters installled. A little loud for my taste. I ended up ordering a set of 4.5” Rhineharts. I spoke with a person who had a set and got good comments from him. I’ll find out when they arrive. Fingers crossed.
