Ok so my tuner is from 2021 I believe and back then I did a couple updates then rode bike and never did anything other than use it as a display for some gauges. So my old laptop that has the software on it is kinda dying battery is dead and it fell off coffee table with cord plugged in and now its really touchy for power to work so I loaded new software on to a little tablet style computer that works fine to run the software but it says I have to update tuner as it won't let me use current tunes I have on my pv1 tuner so if I update tuner will I loose all my old tunes and do i have to start over since its not backwards compatible or will it blend it in or whatever it does in new update . I don't want to mess it up with a update if that's the case

Updating the firmware can definitely feel risky when you've got custom maps you don't want to lose. Usually, the update is just to ensure compatibility with the newer desktop software and shouldn't wipe your stored tunes. However, it is always a safe bet to copy your tune files from the device to your computer or cloud storage before proceeding. That way, even if something goes wrong during the update, you can just reload them later.
