Been thinking about doing a multi-state ride this fall but don't want to drop big money on a new touring bike right now. Curious if anyone here has taken a cheaper bike (used cruiser, smaller displacement, whatever) on a real long haul and how it held up mentally and mechanically over a few hundred miles a day. Was reading through some budget touring options trying to get a sense of what's realistic without breaking the bank, but real world experience > any list online.
Anyone done this on their SG or something else cheaper before upgrading? What would you actually recommend to someone trying to keep costs down for a first big trip?
