Another update .... 9 years with this awesome shield.
Again, I only use the extended position in cold weather or on long hauls.
I feel the 8" short position is just a hair too short for any long distance rides where neck/shoulder fatigue is an issue.
At 5'9" with a long torso, I experience some helmet bobble .... not enough to cause me to extend it, but it is noticeable. (Maybe I'm just too old now at 58,
).
That being said, the extended height (14") is AMAZING!
Another near 1,000 mile, round trip to Myrtle Beach is complete.
Zero neck/shoulder fatique .... even with the full face modular helmet for most of the journey. I can not say enough good about the 14" extended height on long hauls.
We did experience rain again on the return trip a few times ... total of about 1 hour on 3 or 4 separate occasions. The top portion doesn't clear itself very good as I've mentioned before. It wasn't an issue this time due to the lower intensity of the rain showers we experienced.
So ..... looking through the windshield in rain IS an issue if it doesn't shed the rain effectively. I still feel the benefit it provides greatly overshadows the negative of rain not shedding off quickly simply because I rarely ride in the rain unless I'm caught in it (or our annual MB road trip).
Since I wear eyeglasses, which also do NOT shed rain water effectively, the benefit of the extended height is worth the slight vision issue in rain.
Maybe next year, I'll have an update about how I plan to install the upper portion in front of the lower portion with a foam gasket to seal it together to potentially help the wind flow up over the upper part to assist water shedding. .... .... but it is such an infrequent event, that mod may slip my mind before the next year's long haul.
