Question concerning VIN #

I work parts in an RV Dealership. This last week a early model StreetGlide.. Appears to be 06-10 was taken in on trade. When I looked it over I noticed the Vin #(my 15 is stamped on the left frame tube(looking front) is not there. On closer look it's obvious it was welded over. Lots of non factory looking welds from the neck down and painted over. The only Vin I can find is on the engine case. .
I do know it was to be picked up by a wholesaler we use and appears to have been rejected. I'll find out for sure on Monday.
If the bike has a questionable title is it worth it to pick it up for a project bike? I've been toying with the idea of side cars and or trike mod for my dogs.
The dealer will want to unload it quick rather than hang on to it.
Any wisdom here appreciated.. All the pics I have atm

My guess would be that someone has modified the frame, such as adding rake, or the bike is stolen. Has anyone run the VIN through law enforcement databases?

Make sure you get the title and VIN verified before buying it. If it turns out to be stolen, you don't want to be anywhere near that paper trail.

the VIN on the motor is not the same as the VIN on the frame... just so you know... mine are different as well on my 14 and 15

Here in NV... the engine is considered a 'PART' and they don't list it on the title... I tried getting my 120ST VIN on the title and was told, " it doesn't need to be there, its just a part." I don't like it, but that's the way it is here...

Thanks spazz.. Once I find out what sales knows about it I'll consider what to do.. I'm looking at it from the point of view I know the dealer will want it off the lot.. Good or bad.. Might get it for next to nothing.. But then again.. 0 cost for 100% aggravation ain't good either.. Lol..

They don't usually check the VIN when titling a vehicle. If the title looks good, it goes through, unless something raises a red flag.

One of our employees bought a Yamaha crotch rocket last summer. It came with a good title. He went down and got his tags and title with no issues. They gave his a tag and the title is mailed. Instead of getting a title in a few weeks, he got a visit from the state police wanting to check the VIN. The VIN was ground off. They confiscated the bike claiming that it was stolen property. Evidently, the VIN on the title was used in a crime, totaled and impounded, then sold at auction...with the title.

The problem is that with no VIN on the frame, you have no way of proving the title matches the bike. Seriously, with no VIN and no affidavit from a previous owner or shop noting a frame repair or modification, the dealer should sell it for parts with no title.

Actually, a bent frame would not be repaired. It would either total the bike or the frame would be replaced. If the bike was totaled, it would have a salvage title. If the frame was replaced, the new frame would have come with a new title or some paperwork reflecting that. Either way, the new frame would have a VIN on it.

Update.. Wholesaler came back and bought bike for 10k. Still no vin visible on frame .. That can for the help fellas
