When reinstalling the inner primary, is it better to use assembly lube on the crankcase gasket or should I use clean oil?

Is there a rule of thumb for as to use which when?

When you assemble an engine, use assembly lube if you have it. It clings to surfaces better than motor oil.

Assemble new gaskets dry. Dynamic seals on spinning shafts should be lubed.

Assemble gaskets dry? Why is that? My whole life I’ve been told to apply a thing coat of oil to it. I’m just curious that is all.

Leak sealing technologies are built directly into the gasket material. Assemble clean and dry.
