2017 Street Glide Special Test Ride - First Impressions

So I have had my 2017 special for 3 weeks yesterday and today its in the shop with 625 miles on it with a oil leak at the right front corner of the engine so I will see how this goes just disappointed but I did buy the first year of the new engine but overall I'm super stoked with this bike .

Sorry to hear that your 17 is in the shop. Is the leak in Cylinder/Head area or in the crank case area? Was it near the oil cooling lines? I know it's pretty hard to isolate a leak. Please let us know what your shop finds. I'm taking a 2nd look at a 17 SGS tomorrow.

My 17 street glide runs great I love the bike but the m8 is having trouble keep engine oil in it took it to the dealer Friday they said it's the crank sensor oring they replaced that and the oil cooler check valve take it back Tuesday to have that part fixed they told me to ride it the leak has gotten worse and is now marking it's spot everywhere I stop it's got 690 miles on it feeling disappointed.

I also hate the new clutch. Did you feel a jolt in the clutch lever when the gears shifted ? I don't like the engagement either.

I have about 1400 miles on my 2017 Street Glide and it has been perfect so far. I moved from a 2016 Sportster 1200C to the new Street Glide so my wife would be more comfortable. I always said that I'd never buy a bagger but I this bike had me hooked as soon as I started the test ride. What an awesome bike.

Wow, when I posted this 9 months ago, it was just something that came to mind from when I got down on the ground to get a close look at the external oil lines. Now with the 6/2/17, 57,000 2017 touring bike recall for a possible leaking/detached oil line, I'm looking like a prophet. Wish I could predict the lottery this well! Hope nobody here has had this issue.

Anyone concerned about the plumbing on the new M8/107 oil & air cooled heads?. I'm thinking it should have been done with stainless braided lines with connections that are screwed together rather than steel tubing joined by clamped rubber tubing. This wasn't easily noticeable on the assembled 2017 demo bike I rode, but if you take a look at the picture below, this plumbing is all external to the heads/engine. I wonder how leak tight it will be in the long term. Having "vital fluids" flowing external to the engine in rubber hosing, makes me wonder if it will be prone to leaks. Yes I know an automobile cooling system has clamped rubber hosing carrying coolant to/from the radiator, but the implications of an oil leak seem more significant (and costly) than a coolant leak.

I don't know much about Harley engine history, has plumbing like this been used on other HD engines? If so, was it problematic?

You have 57000 miles on your 17? Impressive!
